What we liked: Cast performances
What we didn’t like: Too many songs, dull plot with a not-so-shocking climax
Ishq Vishk Rebound is a relationship coop that you can avoid
Ishq Vishk was a 2003 sleeper hit film that launched both Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao’s careers. For the 90s kids, the film is on that list of movies that they can watch at any given point. So when Ishq Vishk Rebound was announced with a fresh cast, the audience had some hope that the film would work. Unfortunately, the new film fails to make the same impact. Even though the makers already made everyone aware that Ishq Vishq Rebound is neither a remake nor a sequel, but instead belongs to the same franchise — the film majorly lacks the elements that worked for the original film.
Nipun Dharmadhikari has worked on several TV shows and regional films including the highly popular Netflix show, Mismatched, but with his first Bollywood movie, Ishq Vishk Rebound, he has failed to create similar magic. The script lacks the emotional depth that the original franchise film had. While the story starts off great and manages to keep you engaged, it almost immediately fizzles out by the end of the first half of the movie. Some pieces of the story might be relatable to you, but the film as a whole gives you nothing. The saving grace is the few conversations that take place between the lead characters that feel a little too real, courtesy of the writing team of Ishq Vishk Rebound movie. Some jokes don’t land that well and the Gore Gore Mukhde Pe remake was really not needed!
While there’s so much that is wrong with this film, Ishq Vishk Rebound deserves the three stars in this review only for the cast of the movie. Rohit Saraf is a natural on screen and truly has made Raghav shine in the story. Some scenes may be cringe, but since it’s Rohit, we are sure the audience won’t mind going through it. The film doesn’t feel like Pashmina Rohan‘s debut movie. Her character is adorable and the debutant has managed to nail it on the first go.
The supporting cast, even though has very little screen time, helps make the film look better. The only bummer was seeing less of Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal on the screen. The two have very little to do with the progression of the story, and considering that they both have certain acting experiences, it is almost sad to say that their smaller characters are not that memorable.
Ishq Vishk Rebound review: Final verdict
Even if it is not a remake or a sequel, the film is carrying forward the legacy of a film that is a cult classic. That’s a huge responsibility that Ishq Vishk Rebound failed to take on. The film has the elements that make it a good one-time-watch film, but the charm that the original film had is absent in the new film. Watch the movie only for the cast!
