Jordan’s King Abdullah warned Israel on Friday, cautioning against any efforts to displace Palestinians, including internal displacement forcibly.
This statement comes in response to Israel’s recent directive instructing Gazans to move to the southern region of the enclave. King Abdullah’s message underscores the importance of safeguarding the rights and well-being of the Palestinian population. It signals Jordan’s commitment to addressing the humanitarian and political challenges in the region.
A statement on the Royal Court’s social media account emphasized the need to prevent the current crisis from affecting neighbouring countries. It urged measures to ensure the ongoing turmoil does not spill over into neighbouring countries.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense officially notified the United Nations of a mandate to evacuate 1.1 million residents from northern Gaza to the southern regions, with a strict 24-hour deadline. However, the United Nations has issued a stark warning, stating that such a mass displacement is not feasible and would result in catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has made a direct plea to Israel, urging the cancellation of the evacuation order for northern Gaza to avert what he called a “catastrophic situation.”
Dujarric emphasized, “Israel’s order to evacuate northern Gaza includes all United Nations staff and all individuals who have taken refuge in the organization’s buildings.”
Humanitarian conditions in Gaza are worsening, with over 1,500 casualties and 6,000 injuries reported in Israeli attacks.
UNRWA confirmed 12 personnel casualties, while the Red Cross warned that over a million people in Gaza urgently require necessities.
