The employee’s union and management haven’t been able to reach a deal after 10-months of negotiations.
Healthcare workers rallied outside Jordan Health’s gala celebration, with a message for its biggest supporters.
“It’s just sad,” said Jordan Health employee Traci Gruschow. “I mean, we’ve never had this happen in the history of Jordan.”
Gruschhow has worked as a dental hygienist at Jordan Health for ten years.
“God put me there for a reason ten years ago, and I’m staying because of it.”
Gruschow along with nearly 70 unionized workers of nurses, medical technicians, nursing assistants and others, are asking for a wage increase. Their union has been unable to reach an agreement with management for ten months.
“The mission for Anthony Jordan was to help people regardless of situations they were in life, provide quality health care to anyone, and yet management can’t seem to give the same consideration to their own employees,” said Chris Roe, a medical records clerk at Jordan Health.
Dr. Cheryl McKeiver, the board chairperson as Jordan Health did not agree with the demonstration, but respected the protestors. “Everyone has a right to share and have their voices being heard, and we recognize that and its ok.”
Dr. McKeiver was among those celebrating the long legacy of Jordan Health.
Now with 10 centers in Monroe County and one in Canandaigua.
“We’re really celebrating how much they’ve impacted and cared for the community when there wasn’t anyone else to care for those patients,” said Dr. McKeiver.
It’s a legacy Gruschow also celebrates, and is why she hopes they can come to an agreement.
“I wish I could be inside celebrating Jordans mission because I believe in Jordans mission. In that it’s quality care for everyone, whether they have the ability to pay,” Gruschow added. “And that’s what I give, and that’s what I’ll continue to give.”
The employees hope management will accept an agreement put forth by a federal mediator months ago.
