Heavy rain, floods and landslides have caused fatalities and destroyed homes across Nepal during the first two days of July 2021.
According to figures from NDMA, 10 people have died, 4 are missing and 21 injured. A total of 33 homes have been severely damaged and 19 destroyed. Almost 90 families have been affected.
Landslides struck in 2 separate incidents in Chitawan District on 01 July 2021. In Rapti Municipality 1 person died and 3 were reported missing, while a landslide in Kalika Municipality left one person dead.
Also on 01 July heavy rain triggered landslides in Tanahun District, where 2 fatalities were reported, and in Sindhuli District, where 1 person died.
On 02 July landslides in Gorkha, Khotang and Dhading left at least 5 people dead and 6 injured. The following day heavy rain, floods or landslides were reported in 13 districts, including Kanchanpur, Nawalpur, Kaski, Makawanpur, Bara, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Siraha, Udayapur and Khotang.
Further heavy rain has fallen over the last 24 hours. The city of Pokhara in central Nepal recorded 203.3 mm of rain, while nearby Lumle in Kaski District saw 147.5 mm, according to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Severe flooding and flash floods have affected the country since the start of this year’s monsoon rainfall in mid-June, when 5 people died and 19 were reported missing.
