The Asia-Pacific Amateur, formerly referred to as the Asian Amateur, represents a premier series of global competitions masterminded by a collaboration involving the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), The R&A, and the esteemed Masters Tournament. This prestigious event provides its champion with coveted invitations not only to compete in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club but also at The Open Championship.
Event History and Venues
Over its history, this significant tournament has traversed across‍ several countries within the region. Previous editions have taken place in nations like China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. Each venue adds unique elements that reflect local culture while upholding international golfing standards.
Player Selection Criteria
The tournament features a maximum field of 120 competitors selected through specific criteria:
– Each participating APGC member nation is entitled to send its two highest-ranked amateur golfers.
– In addition to these spots from other countries within APGC membership ranks as per current standings.
– Four additional players from the host country are also included in this pool.
In instances where available rankings do not fulfill these slots from any given member nation, that country may nominate additional players upon gaining approval from APGC officials. Furthermore, to ensure diversity and competitiveness within fields , territories outside of host members can contribute no more than six participants each.
