Lifestyle Asia Singapore (LSA): Firstly, congratulations on the huge success of your stage at Zouk’s 33rd anniversary! What did you like the most when performing your set in Singapore?
Nico Moreno: The energy from the audience was amazing. For my first time playing at Zouk, it was truly breathtaking. The crowd’s enthusiasm was beyond what I expected, making the experience very special. Also, the way the club is set up is really cool and unique.
The layout, lights, and overall feel create a great atmosphere that makes Zouk different from other places. It was fantastic to perform in such a great club. The creative design and the crowd’s incredible energy made it a night to remember. I can’t wait to come back and play here again.
LSA: What aspects of Techno made you interested in the genre when you first discovered it?
Nico Moreno: The genre of hard techno is always changing, but what really appeals to me is the energy that the music brings. The hard kicks, fast melodies, and unexpected elements within this genre have truly captivated me.
LSA: How would you describe your style of techno to someone who’s just introduced to your music?
Nico Moreno: What I play and create falls within hard techno, but I draw inspiration from other music styles as well. For example, “You Make Me Horny” has a psytrance vibe, while “2 Be High” includes elements of raw. So yes, my style is hard techno, but in a very unique way.
LSA: What gets you inspired and pushes you to experiment more in terms of musicality?
Nico Moreno: I travel all the time, discovering cultures, meeting people, and encountering such diverse audiences that eventually, you find inspiration in the life you live, and it changes everything. Also, being curious about what others do, not just within techno, adds to that.
LSA: As a pioneer in the Techno realm, how do you feel about Techno’s significance and influence among the Gen Z audience?
Nico Moreno: I believe we’re facing a generation that is even more open to techno and unafraid to break the mold. The techno audience is growing; people who were not part of this world are discovering it through festivals, and it’s amazing to feel this constant movement.
LSA: What is the most rewarding experience you’ve achieved in your music career thus far?
Nico Moreno: I think where I am today is a great success. I’ve had incredible gigs and festivals. If you had told me ten years ago that I would be in Singapore playing my tracks to an enthusiastic crowd, I’m not sure I would have believed it. I’m playing all around the world, it’s amazing. I’m starting my first tour in Asia in June, and it’s far from over.
LSA: Which song in your discography can be considered your magnum opus or holds special meaning?
Nico Moreno: This is a tough one. I can mention ‘Purple Widow’, which was the track that brought me wider recognition with the public. Then there’s ‘You Make Me Horny’ from my new album, which is also my favourite track on the album and one that people really love.
LSA: What are your hopes for the future of techno?
Nico Moreno: In the coming years, I hope to see techno evolving by incorporating even more diverse influences and various musical genres, while maintaining its characteristic intensity and raw energy. I have confidence in the next generation; to bring their own unique touch and ensure the scene thrives with their contributions.
